Influence of Acidified Biochar on CO2–C Efflux and Micronutrient Availability in an Alkaline Sandy Soil

Biochar, an alkaline carbonaceous substance resulting from the thermal pyrolysis of biomass, reportedly enhances micronutrient availability in acidic soils with little or no effect on soils. In this study, biochars were produced poultry manure (PM) at 350 °C and 550 (BC350 BC550 respectively). The acidified (ABC350 ABC550, respectively) incorporated into sandy soil, their effects soil micronutrients (Cu, Fe, Mn Zn) availability, CO2–C efflux investigated a 30-day incubation study. treatments (PM, BC350, BC550, ABC350, ABC550) administered triplicate to 100 g 0%, 1%, 3% (w/w). Relative treatment, acidification drastically reduced pH BC350 by 3.13 4.28 units, respectively, increased studied soil. Furthermore, (both non-acidified acidified) CO2 emission compared that treatment. After 1% treatment emissions 89.6% 91.4% lower, than summary, biochar improved when higher temperature, can mitigate carbon sequestration.
